ESXi PSOD #Homelab #vExpert #ESXi

February 18, 2019 Bilal Ahmed 0

So I booted up my HP Z600, this houses my main management VMs and ESXi runs off a usb stick. So nothing fancy. On boot up I got this lovely screen of joy: I don’t like PSODs they make me sad. Looking at the error and the fact that it was happening at boot up made me think of some USB drive issue. Let’s think about it for a minute, when ESXi is loaded off a USB/SD card it will then run in memory, and if you make a change it will save it to the drive or it will save automatically every hour (KB ). One thing you have to remember is to make sure you configure the advance […]

Moving from vSphere 5.5 to vSphere 6.5 Part 1 #Upgrade #Migration #Fresh #vExpert #vSphere #VCSA

January 15, 2019 Bilal Ahmed 0

So I have been meaning to write a post on this for a while, so I thought I better get started! So let me tell you a story! The Beginning  Now as we all know vSphere 5.5 went EOL a little while ago. So in preparation, I was investigating the various options that were available for the business, to keep them supported. When I first joined the business years ago. it was all a vSphere 5.1 environment that didn’t get patched often and hosts had very very long uptimes. the reason I was brought on board was to get a handle on this and bring it all into line. One of the first jobs was to actually re-ip the whole environment […]

January 7, 2019 Kim Bottu 0

VMworld Barcelona 2018 #Hackathon H4CK 4 C3N73R #RussianRoulette @kmruddy @vmwarecode @VirtualG_UK @Dark_KnightUK

November 17, 2018 Bilal Ahmed 0

So I had the pleasure of attending the hackathon at VMworld and meeting @kmruddy and the mighty beard! So I was asked to join up with Graham Barker @VirtualG_UK and David Taylor (WHO DOES NOT HAVE A TWITTER ACCOUNT) David how can you be a guy that travels around the world for Dell EMC on projects and not even have a Twitter account, you should be ashamed of yourself! They had an idea, that to me was super interesting. They were using VMware Workstation 15 with the new REST API bits, along with PowerCLI to create a quiz. After discussing the idea with them, I came up with the idea of it being called Russian Roulette. In VMware Workstation there was a […]

It’s a wrap – VMworld 2018

November 9, 2018 Stijn Depril 0

The last 4 days were crazy. We had our yearly VMworld in Barcelona! I had a jam packed agenda starting monday morning at 10 am till today. We could summarize it to long days and short nights! This was my second VMworld since I started working at VMware and it was great! I would even say “the best VMworld I ever attended”. On Monday I got to Barcelona around 9am in the morning. Leaving Brussels Airport early for my first meeting at 10 am in beautiful Barcelona. I planned around 15 meetings in these 4 days and we talked about divers subjects. In my current role it was most of the time storage centric. However a lot of our conversations […]

Day 2 VMworld – The vCommunity perspective

November 7, 2018 Kim Bottu 0

It’s been a wonderful but at the same time very long and tiring day for me today. The sessions attended have been awesome, the people around me have been ‘super’ but unfortunately, last Monday night, I had the excellent -ahum- idea, to only drink soda drinks. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep that well on the night from Monday going on Tuesday. Oh well.. I have learned from that mistake 🙂  . The vCommunity post Today, for the most time, I have been thinking and pondering about writing an article about the general session. Also about how the technical sessions I have attended today, fit in the vision gospelled in the general session. But let’s discard that idea. There are […]

VSAN at VMworld – What you can’t miss!

October 26, 2018 Stijn Depril 0

Only a couple of days before the doors at Gran Fira open for a new edition of VMworld in Barcelona! Before packing your bags, I hope you all had a view at the session builder and scheduled the sessions you believe will be most beneficial for you! I would like to make a suggestion to fill these tiny free spaces in your diary. As you know, I’m working on building the VSAN business in the Benelux region. So it probably won’t surprise you that my suggestion is fully packed with storage sessions! Oh and by the way while you are at it. Come and have a talk with my fellow vMusketeers during VMworld! I might have some cool swag for […]

Why the vExpert PRO program is important

October 18, 2018 Kim Bottu 0

Over the last couple of days I have heard and have read a lot of negative feedback about the vExpert PRO program. I don’t really want to go in on this because people are entitled to voice their opinion and we don’t always have to agree on everything. Instead, let me tell you why I think this program is important and why I think it is an added value. Four years ago, blogging and public speaking were the last things on my mind. I was too shy and too afraid of running the risk of making a fool of myself in public to even dare anything publicly. But along came Ariel Sanchez. (Yes, that guy again! He is like a […]
