VMworld 2019

November 9, 2019 Stijn Depril 0

Another VMworld came to an end earlier this week. Third year I was present and I can only say – this was another great edition. So let’s talk about my highlights… My VMworld started on Monday when arriving in Barcelona. At this moment not the best city in the world to visit but I always love the atmosphere in the city and during the event. Once arrived I had two customer meetings in the meeting center. The meeting center is a place where you can have meetings with specific people in different BU’s about different topics that might be relevant for you and your business. They can go from just a friendly handshake to a proper deep dive in a […]

VCF Everywhere

October 18, 2019 Stijn Depril 0

As an employee at VMware the only constant is change. Like our customers we are looking into creating a stack that is easy to built and operate in the most consistent way possible. Now that has been a challenge for any datacenter at scale. There were always teams in some dark corner in the datacenter experimenting with something different than the standard. Still in a majority of all datacenters across the globe vSphere is the standard virtualisation service. VMware as a company is been changing the company from a focus on server virtualisation to the virtualisation of all different component in the datacenter. As you know I’m looking into vSAN in the Benelux region. My role within VMware is changing […]

Your Guide To A Successful Presentation

May 28, 2019 Stijn Depril 0

This blog post will cover a small guide to a successful presentation. In my day to day life I’m talking in front of small and bigger groups of people on a weekly basis. I really get a kick out of presenting. I get a lot of energy out of it and I’m sure not everyone is made for public speaking. However when I look back to my time in school I was always completely stressed out when I needed to present. You all know how that goes. Your throat feels strange. You can’t remember your words. You are cutting the chase and you forget half of your story. Yes that was me in school and when I started working I […]

VMUG BE

May 27, 2019 Stijn Depril 0

VMUG – VMware User Group in Belgium is upon us. This event is a great opportunity to get yourself updated on recent announcements shared by VMware but also users sharing their story with VMware technology. This year the agenda is packed with excellent topics. I’m really looking forward to all of them! 2 sessions I’m really looking forward too are underneath. One is the session from Johan Van Amersfoort – VDI by day, compute by night. I was already at 2 events where Johan was presenting this topic. On both events I couldn’t make it due to other responsibilities at that moment. I’m really planning to attend this one. I’m sure this will be a great session that might “mindshift” […]

VSAN: Stretched Cluster Failure Scenarios explained

January 7, 2019 Stijn Depril 1

One of the most interesting features of VSAN, is the stretched cluster capability. It is safe to say, when we first introduced the stretched cluster capability, it wasn’t 100% ready. Sure, it worked, but it needed some improvements. Meanwhile we have made several improvements and have extended the stretched cluster feature set and it is now fully functioning & enterprise ready. Of course, with great claims come great responsibilities. So because we are always dealing with customer data, I always have a conversation with the customer about the actual expectations. This is especially the case if the client is thinking about using enterprise features such as stretched clustering.  Some customers have a very good understanding of business continuity others are not […]

Virtual Stack – Intro into VSAN and SDS

November 23, 2018 Stijn Depril 1

Spoiler Alert – If you were hoping to find a tech blog I would stop hoping now. Do read the total article I’m sure you will like it 😉. On average I spent between  1h30min to 6 hours per day in my car. In this daily commute I have plenty of time to work in my mobile office. The 2 most important things I do in my car is calling and listening to podcast. For me listening to podcasts is the perfect way to stay up to date and learn something new and learn to see things differently. It’s both informative but also really entertaining from time to time. Welcome to the Virtual Stack! Recently one of my colleagues in […]

It’s a wrap – VMworld 2018

November 9, 2018 Stijn Depril 0

The last 4 days were crazy. We had our yearly VMworld in Barcelona! I had a jam packed agenda starting monday morning at 10 am till today. We could summarize it to long days and short nights! This was my second VMworld since I started working at VMware and it was great! I would even say “the best VMworld I ever attended”. On Monday I got to Barcelona around 9am in the morning. Leaving Brussels Airport early for my first meeting at 10 am in beautiful Barcelona. I planned around 15 meetings in these 4 days and we talked about divers subjects. In my current role it was most of the time storage centric. However a lot of our conversations […]
