VMware in every Cloud – Hosted VMware Services

April 28, 2021 Kim Bottu 0

Last updated on July 10, 2022. The table of information is not designed to be a competitive comparison table. If you are looking for an opinion on which cloud service provider you should use to host your VMware vSphere environment, then this is not the website for you. You are right, you have seen this table somewhere else before more precisely on Simon Long’s website: https://www.simonlong.co.uk/. Simon did put this table together in order to learn more about the available service offerings and to share this data. Data on each service has been collected in order to have data points from all service providers available in a single place. @Simonlong_ asked us if we would be willing to take over this comparative table and take […]

VMware is actively promoting a Multi-Cloud platform as a solid basis for the new enterprise platform. In line with this, get ready for exciting news about: VMware Cloud on Dell EMC VMware Cloud on AWS Introducing VMware Cloud DRaaS What is new for VMware Cloud on Dell EMC For some time now, VMware cloud has been offered as a cloud service on Dell EMC hardware. This means that Dell EMC hardware will be rolled in into your own datacenter, and through the use of VMware software, bring the cloud right into your datacenter. Avi Networks: Base Configuration

May 24, 2020 Chris Noon 1

Load Balancing. I covered Avi Networks at a high level in my first post. I now want to dive into the base configuration of Avi and at its core, it is a Load Balancer. Saying that there are a few flavours of Load Balancing. Layer 4 Load Balancing. – Focusing on the IP address and TCP port.Layer 7 Load Balancing. – Focusing on layer 7 attributes such as HTTP headers.Global Server Load Balancing. – Adopting the layer 4 and layer 7 concepts to balance applications across geographical regions. While running through the base configuration I will be focusing on layer 4. While layer 7 and GSLB is something I eventually want to play with it will be further down the […]

My experience with the VMware Cloud on AWS – Master Services Competency Specialist Exam 2019

May 21, 2020 Manny Sidhu 0

The other day I happened to jump onto Jeffrey Kusters’ blog and saw his post about him passing this test last year. The post got me thinking. I was lucky to get some hands on experience with HCX late last year albeit not to the cloud from legacy on-prem to VCF on-prem. I also have had experience with SRM and more recently with NSX over the years during my time in the trenches. It looked like I checked off the main boxes for having the skills to get through the test. Jeffrey’s compiled links and notes came in handy, so did Manish Jha’s blog posts located here. Jeffrey’s mind map was very useful too to make it all sort of […]

5V0-31.19: VMware Cloud on AWS Management Exam 2019 – Study tips and my notes

January 6, 2019 Manny Sidhu 4

This test had been in my sights for some time, moreso after Graham Barker posted about it last year. I was pretty flat out at work when he made his passing the exam post here and decided to knock it out within the first week of the new year. More importantly, I’m going to deal with VMConAWS this year at my new job, it made even more sense to skill up. So I took the test this morning and passed. I never brag, it only took me about 3 hours of study, most of which was around (and this builds upon Graham’s post): what was where within the SDDC console in VMConAWS billing and consolidation in VMConAWS interoperability and management of […]

VMworld 2017 – A bold and strong statement

September 15, 2017 Kim Bottu 0

There is no denying it, I am a bit disappointed because there haven’t been any major new technical announcements apart from HCX at VMworld Barcelona and the technical geek in me craves them. But I don’t want you to think that there was no big news. Actually, the opposite is true. VMworld 2017 sends out a clear message into the world. VMware has turned its back on the path of the technical wanderer who tries to redefine himself by trying to play catch up with the big technological buzzwords -such as containers, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, Google,cross-cloud and micro-segmentation – and instead baffles the world with an enterprise ready eco-system which uses all of the buzz word technologies and offers access […]

VMworld 2017 – Day 3

September 14, 2017 Kim Bottu 0

On day 3, Pat Gelsinger, Ray O’ Farrell and Sanjay Poonen started off with replying some questions the audience have. Questions about a simplified model for licensing which might include NSX (the short answer is that they like to keep NSX licensing seperately for now)   the readiness of the HTML5 client (the HTML5 client contains nearly 90% of the available functionality now), had been answered. Credit was given to the open source community and Pat confirmed VMware’s continued involvement and will continue to invest in Open Source. VMware really appreciates the community that drives the Open Source. In fact there is a department in the Office of the CTO which focusses on engaging with the open source community more […]

VMworld 2017 – Day 2

September 14, 2017 Kim Bottu 1

vBreakfast At 6 AM my alarm sounded and it was time to drag myself out of bed, get some coffee down and move my feet towards #vBreakfast. That was me out and about at 6.15AM and cursing myself around 6.17AM because it started pouring down and I had left my new #BLOGBEAT jacket in the apartment. Clever, only fools ask for rain one day and leave their jackets in the apartment the next day.  At #vBreakfast I got to meet more fellow community members who all looked about as tired as myself *grin*. If that makes you wonder if people can have interesting conversations after jetlag and little sleep, join us next year. The short answer is yes we can […]
