VMUG BE

VMUG – VMware User Group in Belgium is upon us. This event is a great opportunity to get yourself updated on recent announcements shared by VMware but also users sharing their story with VMware technology. This year the agenda is packed with excellent topics. I’m really looking forward to all of them! 2 sessions I’m really looking forward too are underneath. One is the session from Johan Van Amersfoort – VDI by day, compute by night. I was already at 2 events where Johan was presenting this topic. On both events I couldn’t make it due to other responsibilities at that moment. I’m really planning to attend this one. I’m sure this will be a great session that might “mindshift” […]

IT as a force for good – Security in your digital workspace

January 11, 2019 Frederiek Vanhoornick 0

How technology can help against accidental data leakage?   This week an article caught my attention: Somebody was able to steal an external disk. This disk contained backup data of autopsy reports related to the bombing on March 22th, 2016.  https://www.expatica.com/be/news/autopsy-reports-from-brussels-attacks-stolen-official-92660/   So, for me a  couple of questions raised instantly! How is it possible that he can just enter the office? How is it possible that the doctor could save sensitive data to a personal/external disk? Both questions are about security! The first one could be solved just by installing badge readers at the door and an automatic lock And off course some common sense by just closing the door 🙂 The second question is more up my alley […]

Deploying Server 2012 R2 desktops through VMware Horizon View

August 24, 2018 Graeme Vermeulen 0

There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to desktop virtualisation, as I’m sure many will tell you. One of the ways you can drastically simplify things is by using VMware’s desktop virtualisation product, Horizon View. Some might say that it’s more complex than its competitors, however if you’re already using VMware products and are familiar with vSphere, is there really any other choice? Licencing TLDR; Even if you’re using PCoIP or Blast, you will still need to buy RDS CALs (here’s their licencing FAQ). It’s a real grey area, because in the brief it states you only need RDS CALs if you’re using RDS roles – in this case, we aren’t, but it still needs to be […]

EUC – Empowering a secure digital workspace

June 21, 2018 Frederiek Vanhoornick 0

The most of the customers that I talk to have some sort of project going on and they always have splendid work titles. The new workplace Workplace of the future Future Flexible Devices Any application, any device, anywhere, any time But, is the digital workplace a VDI solution? Is it Published Applications? Is it when we can work on any device? Isn’t the future, now? Let’s get back to the basics on how a workplace is delivered I think if we look at how we delivered a workplace in the past, we can fairly say that IT used to be simple. –    Same corporate image for everybody –    Secure it, lock it down –    Issue with the […]

REVIEW: Architecting EUC Solutions

June 26, 2016 Kim Bottu 0

Each year I order a couple of books even though I have no idea if they will be books which contain content I can actually use. The reasons to buy these books varies: The title might look promising, there is a lot of buzz about a book or it can be as plain and simple as me liking the cover of a book. Brian Suhr’s book belongs to the first category, the title looked promising. Such a strategy can result in picking bad books of course.                 This book is not a book that does not deliver though. After having read Architecting EUC Solutions I would say this book is quite the opposite to me, an EUC compendium ‘par […]
