My top 5 picks for VMworld 2021

August 30, 2021 Kim Bottu 1

Over the last two years the world has changed a lot. The pandemic not only has changed the way we work, but also how we look at datacenter operations, system & application accessibility and personal devices. I used to be a datacenter guy, so my sessions will focus mostly on the datacenter space. Here are my 5 (well actually 8) picks for VMworld 2021. VMware’s direction Raghu stepped up as VMware’s CEO, I am keen to find out what Raghu’s vision is for the next years! Accelerating Innovation: Strategies for Winning Across Clouds and Apps [GEN3103] Monitoring costs If you would have asked me a couple of years ago what was most important in monitoring capabilities, I probably would have […]

It’s a wrap – VMworld 2018

November 9, 2018 Stijn Depril 0

The last 4 days were crazy. We had our yearly VMworld in Barcelona! I had a jam packed agenda starting monday morning at 10 am till today. We could summarize it to long days and short nights! This was my second VMworld since I started working at VMware and it was great! I would even say “the best VMworld I ever attended”. On Monday I got to Barcelona around 9am in the morning. Leaving Brussels Airport early for my first meeting at 10 am in beautiful Barcelona. I planned around 15 meetings in these 4 days and we talked about divers subjects. In my current role it was most of the time storage centric. However a lot of our conversations […]

VSAN at VMworld – What you can’t miss!

October 26, 2018 Stijn Depril 0

Only a couple of days before the doors at Gran Fira open for a new edition of VMworld in Barcelona! Before packing your bags, I hope you all had a view at the session builder and scheduled the sessions you believe will be most beneficial for you! I would like to make a suggestion to fill these tiny free spaces in your diary. As you know, I’m working on building the VSAN business in the Benelux region. So it probably won’t surprise you that my suggestion is fully packed with storage sessions! Oh and by the way while you are at it. Come and have a talk with my fellow vMusketeers during VMworld! I might have some cool swag for […]

How attending VMworld changed my professional life and can change yours too!

June 3, 2018 Kim Bottu 2

It’s been six years since I attended VMworld for the very first time. Up until my very first VMworld I never had attended any vendor conference and here I was on the plane on route to Barcelona. As soon as I got off the plane and out of the airport, I immediately got smacked in the face with a heatwave. My first planning mistake became very clear as soon as I entered my hotel room: crappy air conditioning. Not really what you desire for when it is blistering hot outside. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be my only planning mistake. Ahead of the conference I had made a list of all the sessions I wanted to attend to and all the guided labs […]

VMworld 2017 Barcelona – Are you going?

June 12, 2017 Kim Bottu 0

A couple of weeks ago I received some very pleasant news in my inbox:  “VMworld Blogger Pass, Barcelona – YOU’RE GOING!” This is the second year VMware bestows this honor on me and I am feeling as happy and honored as I felt last year. Just like last year, I had to read the email a couple of time before I was able to believe the subject of the email. *grin* Of course a free conference ticket only takes you that far. I have to extend my gratitude also to my managers who recognize the value of all the technical sessions at VMworld and who sponsor all my other costs. You guys rock! So what is this VMworld I am writing about? I have always seen VMworld […]

VMworld Barcelona 2016 – General Session Tuesday!

October 18, 2016 Kim Bottu 0

At the keynote today Pat Gelsinger emphasized how IT is transforming to cloud adoption. How traditional business is changing to a digital business model if it hasn’t already transformed to a digital business model only. In any case together we will face forward and drive the digital business forward as well . At the moment about 20% of the current businesses are leading the digital transformation while about 80% of businesses are lagging. Where leaders write the rules, laggers tend to still try to optimize the process. What is happening today is that we are grooming the industrial business age into a digital business for everyone. Cloud has come a long way. In 2006 AWS was launched and cloud computing […]

VMworld Barcelona – Pre-conference post

September 19, 2016 Kim Bottu 0

If you are among the lucky ones who like me are heading out to VMworld Barcelona in a couple of weeks, I hope you are as excited about this year’s edition as I am. This year more so than last year is the year where VMware makes a statement that it is still one of the big players and after having watched the general sessions of VMworld 2016 Las Vegas and having browsed through the VMworld 2016 content catalog I have to agree, this year will be epic! Barcelona is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. It is the city where you can admire the architectural masterpieces designed by Gaudi, the hometown of FC Barcelona, a place where good food never is far away and to me the host […]

VMworld 2016

July 15, 2016 Kim Bottu 0

For the last couple of years I have been fortunate enough to be able to attend VMworld. Luckily enough for me my managers see the value in me attending VMworld. I know a lot of employers think employees want to attend for the after parties and all that, will be drunk most of the evenings, hungover in the daytime and attending barely 10 % of the sessions you said you want to attend. But from the first time I have attended VMworld in 2012 I have come to realize some things: The total amount of money I spend for VMworld is way less than the costs for the offical ICM course which comes in at 3600 Euros + VAT in Belgium and at the […]
