Basic Configuration vRealize Operations Manager 6.2


Once you have deployed the vRealize Operations Manager, you have to browse to the vROPS Web interface. I did create my DNS entry for vROPS.vsphere6.local before I deployed the appliance.

Because this is a demo, I will select the New Installation.

Click Next and set your password

Choose your certificates (I am using the default for the test) and click Next

Set the Cluster MasterNode Name and NTP and click Next.

The Node will now prepare for first time use

Start the vRealize Operations Manager for the first time

If you have a big environment you might want to add more Node (Operation Managers) to your vROPS Cluster. I do not need them, but in a later post I will show you how to add them. Click Yes in the following popup.

The vROPS Cluster will now try to go online. This can take a while.. so time to get a coffee.

Time to Login for the first time. At the moment you can only use a Local user as you have not yet configured any

I will not show the next screens as they have no added value but here is what the present:Accept the EULAEnter the Product key if you have nay otherwise use the Trial License key, Select if you want to enter the customer experience program,

Click Finish in the following screen

Time for a coffee again. Then logon ( it can take a while before the actual logon fieldsappear! When they do, logon. (as you can see this is not the admin logon anymore, the the user fields!).

You will now be able to see the graphs.

Click on Administration (look screenshot above) then select Authentication sources

click the Green + and add AD

AD has now been added as a Authentication source

In Access Control you can add your AD users and assign Roles. I will not show this is screenshots as this is pretty easy to do.

Now we will add vCenter. Click on Solutions (see screenshot above). Follow the number and click VMware vSphere first and then click on the 2 wheels above it.

Once you are in the menu , add your vCenter server

You can add the user to authenticate against the vCenter server  by clicking the green +sign.  I prefer to use the SSO administrator for this.

Click to Save settings

and done. The adapter has been modified and is used for vCenter now.

vCenter has been added now

Click on the home button to go back to the main menu.

You now have visibility into your infrastructure. Note: If you have a big environment, loading the information can take a long time.

I only have 2 VMs running.
